I have already read through many threads and gleaned some very helpful starting advice so thank you to those active on this community.

We are relocating for my husband's job and his office will be near I-20 off Hulen, we are hoping to find a safe, family neighborhood that would be around 30 mins commute or less so I'm guessing everything that would be far North is out. I have a son who will be in kindergarden next Fall so we are hoping for decent schools to avoid paying for private schools as we have been doing in our current residence in Arkansas. We are wanting to rent a home 3BR-4BR/2BA with a budget of $2k.

I am flying there next week to look in person and have currently been doing internet research. I am finding that there are virtually no home rentals zoned for Tanglewood which I know is the desirable elementary school closest to his office. I found several seemingly nice homes just south of I-20 in SW area but the Crowley ISD schools seem a bit sub-par. Other areas that have been mentioned to me are Benbrook (already browsing rental homes there) and Mansfield. I also was told to look at Aledo ISD but on a map at least this seems so far away from everything?

We currently live in a nice tree filled established neighborhood relatively close to amenities and am hoping to avoid a barren, treeless neighborhood.
Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Aledo isn't really that far. I live about 6 minutes west of the main "town" of Aledo (though Aledo ISD area is much larger!) and I can be at Hulen in about 25 minutes. So don't rule Aledo out. Downside is...you are also for the most part 20-30 minutes away from restaurants and shopping. Exception being the Brookshire's grocery in Willow Park and the WalMarts in Hudson Oaks & Benbrook. But it is a good school district and homes typically have larger lots (average at least a half acre in our neighborhood). So depending on what you call "close to amenities" Aledo may fit.

Look into Burleson maybe as an alternative. Just a bit farther south than Crowley but not much.

However...I would avoid Mansfield.

Thank you for your response, Aledo does sound too far away for me... 20-30 minutes from restaurants and shopping would not make us happy. I'm actually really looking forward to getting back to a large city again after living in Central Arkansas

Excellent elementary schools are in southwest Arlington for any neighborhoods that feed into Martin High School. Nice area, about 30 minutes rush hour commute. Arlington is big and has wonderful neighborhoods on the west side (west of Cooper) but really do need to select Martin HS feeders:

Thank you so much Squirl! I had read in other threads that Arlington was to be avoided but it sounds like there are just certain pockets to avoid? You mention west of Cooper - are there any North/South boundaries to be wary of as well when looking there?

If your confine your Arlington search to any house that is served by Martin High School you should be fine. I would specifically stay south of Arkansas lane, west of Cooper...some lovely areas!

Get a realtor, there are homes for rent in the Tangelwood area, but a lot of the landlords don't do much as of listing them, just a sign in the yard.

Tanglewood is great but it's not the only good elem school in the area. Lily B Clayton Elm and Ridglea Hills Elem are both very good schools and their feeder areas would be very close to Hulen and I20 -they basically sandwich the Tanglewood Area on both sides, Lilly B Clayton to the East and Ridglea Hills to the West. I know there are homes for rent in those areas.

Having a local realtor show you around would be really helpful, all of those areas are established and near lots of amenities, in fact that is one of the fastest growing areas in Fort Worth right now.

Westcliff/Overton Park/Tanglewood (i.e. very close to where your husband will work) happens to be one of the prettiest areas w/ hills, trees, parks etc. and the best schools in the city. It is also very family oriented, as much of the city is. I have seen some "for lease" signs in the neighborhood, one that I recall is on Trail Lake very close to foster park and Westcliff Elementary (also a decent school). Our realtor found us a duplex to rent in the area a few years ago. You should be able to find something. Most homes are owner-occupied, but there are some rentals in a few pockets.
