My friends and I are Florida State alumni and are heading to Arlington at the end of August to catch the Florida State vs Oklahoma State game at AT&T Stadium. That Saturday we plan to go golfing in the morning (since the game is at night).

We live in Tampa/St. Petersburg and aren't sure how the golfing measures up compared to southwest Florida when it comes to how the courses play (I'm sure they are more elevated, maybe less water?). And most importantly price?

We usually like to stay away from Munis but are open to a nice one. A typical privately owned but open to the public course around that time of year will go for around $50 here. Some of the nicer ones go for $100 but we aren't looking to spend too much since we aren't a bunch of Bubba Watsons.

We are staying in Ft. Worth near the stockyards so something in that area would be ideal but we are open to traveling to close by suburbs if necessary.

Cliff Notes: Where do you recommend we golf Labor Day weekend around Ft. Worth for somewhere between $40 and $70?

Thanks in advance.

You might check out Colonial Country Club where they play the invitational in May. It's just a little southwest from where you're staying. I have no idea on prices or anything because I don't golf, however I do know it's a prestigious course.

Hawks Creek is down Highway 183 from the Stockyards in Westworth Village, next to the military base:

Fort Worth Golf Rate Information - Hawks Creek Golf Club

$54 rate for weekends as of this writing.

You probably wouldn't get to play any of the country clubs unless you happen to know a member.

Iron Horse and Fossil Creek are both nice courses north of downtown. Tour 18 is awesome but is further north up near the Texas Motor Speedway which is going to be at least 30 minutes from downtown. Make sure you check out Sundance Square in downtown Ft Worth and my favorite drinking establishment The Flying Saucer.

You might find there are lot of tournament play going on Labor Day weekend--
my husband usually tries to stay off a course on a holiday weekend--
guys who never play any other time are out

My husband plays Hawk's Creek--nice course--a little short--former military course
Iron Horse and Fossil Creek (I think the latter is better/more attractive) are also reachable w/o much effort

In Euless--which has a top notch public course--Texas Star--but can be very hard to get tee times even in August--
Bear Creek by DFW airport (wait for plane noise when you drive) is farther
Tierra Vierde -- city of Arlington course--well regarded--SE of downtown FTW and fairly inexpensive

you can use this link and search almost any golf course in the area
don't play Cowboys in Grapevine -- takes all day and boring play-- because of all the waiting

Awesome, Thank you all for the help. I know Labor Day weekend may be tough but I will try to find a tee time.
