I am trying to decide on where to live in Texas. I have been told that the areas in DFW and Houston are the best places to live. I am in my late 30s, single parent, Administrative Assistant, looking to (ultimately) purchase a loft or 4bdrm home with a sizable yard (front & back).

Info request
-job opportunities
-school districts
-apartment rentals
-family recreation
-shopping, nightlife, etc
-taxes, commutes, public transport

Thanks

OK I'll bite..unless you can live in River Oaks, Dallas is more white-collar and Houston is more blue collar.

Gosh the person who started this thread was thinking like I was...I was going to post this question last night but I am in Insurance and was trying to decide which place to move to. I hear Houston has more to do but that there is alot of traffic. Dallas is nice but that it gets cold in the winter. Don't know which area to move to never been to Houston but Dallas was ok.

River Oaks or Clear Lake or Kingwood. Speaking of Houston proper only.

Even though you may ruffle some feathers on my board with your comment, you are correct in the blue vs. white collar comparison.

While I've never been to Houston, people who've been there have told me from their 1st hand exp. that the city literally stinks and it gets way too humid in the summer. So those are 2 advantages D/FW would have over Houston. Then again, Houston isn't the largest city in TX by accident.

FW offers all those things you seek, albeit prop. tax is higher than avg. (Then again, prop. taxes are probably high in most cities of TX.)

It CAN stink here in spots, and depends on the time of year. Summer esp with the pollution and humidity and extreme air stagnation.

Then again, DFW has plenty of "purple" ozone days, too. Pollution doesn't necessarily smell bad.
