Hi I'm a Texas native that is currently displaced. I've been trying to move back home for a couple of years now. Once my house here sells I will be looking into the Fort Worth area. Things of course have probably changed since I last lived in the area.

I'm trying to figure out if I want to move into Fort Worth or one of the suburbs. I have no children (and probably never will) so school districts are not important. Although my husband does want to go to college for Electrical Engineering and I would of course like to take some courses (just not sure for what yet). I am looking to buy so, property taxes would be a concern.

If ya'll could help and give me an idea of pros/cons of Fort Worth and surrounding area it would be helpful.
Thanks.

I would recommend Fort Worth city proper over the suburbs; especially since you have no children. In FW you will have immediate access to more cultural, entertainment, and city conveniences. Plus, if you live in the burbs you will likely be surrounded by families and older people, whereas in the city you will have a more diverse offering of people.

I agree with tjh1. I prefer a lively/suburban/urban environment over a rural one.

thanks for the input. What are the good neighborhoods in the north part of the city? I'm hoping for a fairly large yard as I have 2 dogs.

University of Texas at Arlington (UTA) has an excellent EE program your hubby might want to look into.

I heard Keller is pretty good. Saginaw area also has nice properties. If you want a lot of land (1/2 acre or more) for a reasonable price and don't mind a bit of a commute to downtown, then look at Haslet.

A commute is fine, my husband currently commutes 65 miles to work one way. If he can get a transfer with his job he will be working just North of Fort Worth. I can get a job pretty much anywhere (jack of all trades here). Of course if he can't transfer then we'll have to look into Security jobs for him and then the question would be where and who.... lol
