+1 - it is much easy drive with no backups.

It is long but during weekend he will be close to white rock lake, downtown, etc.
One happy medium is Las Colinas but it is not walking distance to anything else.

I agree with Los Colinas. Getting to and from Lower Greenville and Uptown for some socialization isn't hard at all. Agree with PP about Uber. We live in the burbs :-) but at the time of night functions, there isn't any traffic and its only about a 30 min ride.

I highly suggest meetups. There are tons of transplants here and I feel like everyone is looking for a friend!

GL!

As a yuppie, I would rather live where I'm socializing and drive to work than the other way around. I'd rather not deal with a 30-minute cab/Uber while even slightly under the influence.

I'm a young professional currently living in uptown and commuting north for work (~30 minutes each way).

If you're looking for social area with a short-ish commute, I would recommend the Uptown / Park Cities area. Dead center of Uptown can be a little much in some areas (ie. college students and beer cans on the sidewalks), but I would recommend this area over Roanoke or Denton any day - the commute is worth the lifestyle.

Good luck!
