Got gas this weekend and spent $45 - charge on Amex came up as $125. Do we handle with the station or call the police? Feeling robbed. Thanks.

Start with the store. That's what the police are going to tell you to do unless you already have proof of fraud.

Actually check with your bank. There are still some banks that put a hold of $75-$125 for about 3 days until your actual transaction clears. Then it shows only the amount you actually spent. Most gas pumps will have this on a sign as well, warning you that your bank may do this.

My bank does not do this. The amount spent is instantly taken out of my account-I can check it before I drive away from the pump and see it there. However there are some who do. Yours may also only be temporarily holding $125 and may already be adjusted.

Thanks everyone. Indeed it was a hold for whatever reason and the charge was accurate after a few days. Appreciate the info.
