We are moving to Ft Worth area this summer and am starting to search areas for housing, schools, and overall quality of life. Here's what I'm working with:

1- Hubby will be working in Hurst, I will look to transfer to North Texas VA, situated in South Dallas (I work nursing schedules so will be driving to work around 6am and back home around 7:30 pm, 3 days/week)

2- We have a high schooler, looking for good schools.

3- Our high schooler plays soccer. Competitive soccer. We know FC Dallas has a great system but they are in Frisco and that would be too far... any ideas? Other soccer families here?

4- We are looking to rent. Need a 3 bedroom with garage at least. For budget we'd like to stay under 2k.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

Hurst to south Dallas is a pretty far commute. In traffic probably at least an hour commute each way. Halfway between them you are looking at north Arlington area. While not the best schools around they seem to be pretty decent. Stay away from Irving and Grand Prairie.

If you don't mind the drive, look around the west side of the airport. There are a TON of apartments in the highway 120/360/138 triangle area. Also close to shopping and plenty of restaurants. I lived in that area a few years ago and had a 2 bedroom 2 bath with single garage apartment for about $1200/mo. Schools in that area are pretty good.

There is also a VA hospital in south fort worth if that is an option.

Traffic going south in the AM/North in PM is nothing compared to the reverse. Also, nurses usually only work 3 days a week. I would agree to live closer to your husband’s work so the kids will have better schools. Look at Euless near 183/360.

I actually started looking at the HEB school district, Trinity HS to be exact. It's just hard to gage a school by what you see in reports though. Any thoughts on that school?

I was wondering from that area how a long the drive would be to South Dallas at those times; when I look at live traffic map at those times it seems pretty much all green.

Only problem is working for the VA there's an extra 8hr day every two weeks so that one day I'd be stuck in traffic on my way back home.

abelinkkin: trying to find a 120/360/138 area and not seeing it on a map... I do see a 121/360/183 triangle. Is that what you mean? West of airport? Sometimes roads go by different numbers?

Trinity HS is good.
Yes, 121 instead of 120.

What would approximate drive time be from the 121/360/183 triangle area to 4500 S Lancaster Rd, Dallas at about 6:00 a.m.?

30-40 minutes according to Google Maps when you use 6am as your departing time. That still seems optimistic. I would plan on 1 hour.

I bet that drive time is correct. Traffic at 6 AM is very light and, as I said before, heading south is opposite of traffic, which is mostly heading north.

Yes I meant 121 not 120. There are also a lot of apartments around River Legacy Park in N. Arlington. Its a its a pretty nice area.

Trinity HS is a good school. Also has a very good football program if that sort of thing interests you...it is Texas after all haha.

Thank you so much for the info! I think I will focus our search on Trinity HS area.

HS football not a factor for us though, are looking for great youth soccer clubs in the area though. Any input?

Maybe I should start a different post for this?
