Hi,

My family is looking into relocating to the DFW area. We'd like to be about an hour (any direction) from DFW airport. We're looking for a house plus 5-10 acres for around $500,000 with good schools. My husband works from home so traffic doesn't really matter but cable internet is a must. Any suggestions? Ideally the house should have 6 bedrooms (we have 4 kids) and be somewhat near a town for shopping, gym etc. We would be willing to add on to the house if needed to accommodate our family. My husband would love to be near a lake or have a lake on the property. We also have a black adopted daughter (we are white). I'm only mentioning this because we have received negative comments when traveling through small towns. If there are places where you think we may want to avoid, that would be helpful as well. I plan on sending all the kids to public school.

I just ran a search covering all of the Dallas-Ft. Worth area with your criteria for price, acreage, and bedrooms. There are only 8 properties, and some of them are definitely more than an hour from DFW Airport. If I do 5-6 bedrooms, there are 32, again some more than an hour from DFW Airport. I didn't find any in the areas already suggested.

With so few homes meeting your criteria, I think you'll just have to consider each home and its location (including schools) individually. Trying to pick the location first and then find a home probably isn't going to work. Obviously, if you're flexible on any of your search criteria, it will open up more possibilities.
