Hello,

Really like my house and neighborhood by Lake Arlington. Huge lot, pretty home, tons of room to expand. Given the dearth of homes for sale, and even fewer homes that I actually like, thinking about adding on as an alternative to moving.

I am a very skilled DIY'er, but Arlington will NOT permit a homeowner to do additions on to their own home. And jumping the hoops with the planning commission looks really onerous. Ugh.

Does anyone on here have experience doing this? What kind of costs were involved? Can anyone provide a recommendation?

Thanks in advance!

I own some rental properties in Arlington and don’t think you have it totally correct. You can do the work yourself, I believe, but still need to get permits and inspections.
