I am considering a position in North Richland Hills, Texas. I am an African-American and would like to live in an area that is diverse. What area in the DFW would offer the best commute. I know there is no such thing as a perfect place but I would like to be close to great restaurants, great schools, and shopping. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

NRH should be fine. You can go to the Texas schools website and get data on diversity in the schools. The Hurst/Euless/Bedford school district is good and very diverse, too.

Anywhere in the Keller or HEB school districts is fine.

I love NRH! I live in an older neighborhood off of Rufe Snow and 820. Our block is diverse in all the right ways — ethnicity, ages, white and blue collar workers. It's quiet, lots of walkers and always friendly faces. We're a few minutes away from great restaurants, and the local schools (Birdville ISD) seem to be successful with a lot of parental involvement. (I'm past having kids in schools). The city seems to be very well-run: the library, city fitness center, city hall and animal services buildings are all very new. Give it a chance!

Check the other side of CD
There are demographic
I live in N Hurst in SFR neighborhood
Are you looking for house or apt
Do you even have kids?
There are plenty of apts in Bedford and NRHills--
Hurst not so much
But these areas are all infill and bleed into each other
Plenty of restaurants--chain and local--in the areas
Look at Yelp
Look at a map
Hwy 26 is busy and under construction north of Cheek Sparger
Cheek Sparger-two Lane 30MPH and patrolled--E of 26
Better going West

Birdville is a strong district if she has children
Some elementary schools are older and physical plant not that great
But BISD has strong teaching

I'm in NRH. If you work here, live here, you'll thank yourself for no commute.

Welcome!

NRH = traffic hell, but unfortunately it's like that wherever you go in the metroplex. I second the previous commenter's statement about keeping the commute to a minimum.

No reason not to live in NRH. It's a nice town. The city is pretty racially diverse. School system is good - you'll get out of it what you put into it. We lived there for 27 years so I'm a bit of a homer but...
