My husband and I put an offer on a home in Fort Worth that has issues that we wish to get checked out during our option period. The first one is a really muddy side yard. The yard is shady so the issue could just be that there's not enough sunlight plus it rained recently but we want to make sure there isn't a drainage problem that needs fixing. The other side yard has a really long retaining wall in the yard. We don't see any visible signs of any problems but we know fixing it would be very expensive if there are any so we want to get it checked out. Does anyone have any suggestions regarding who to contact?

You can contact a licensed Professional Engineer that specializes in residential foundations. They do typically also review grading and drainage issues and should be well qualified to review the retaining wall. The best method of finding one is a internet search for "foundation" & "engineer" & "location". You can also speak with the larger and more reputable foundation repair companies to review the grading and drainage and foundation as these are related. Some of these also deal in retaining wall repairs. The licensed PE does cost whereas many foundation companies will provide the reviews for free.

And if this is a neighborhood with elevation change from yard to yard you could try asking some neighbors...
Keller has neighborhoods w/some steep elevation changes and there have been issues w/foundations failing----
This happened years ago--haven't heard so much recently
But people in this neighborhood might have had or know those who had issues
