Fort Worth is not near as welcoming to outsiders as Dallas and it never has been. Most of the people who live in Tarrant County's nicer suburbs like Colleyville and Southlake work in Dallas County. Fort Worth has always thought of itself as having something to prove compared to Dallas. Google search Amon Carter and read some of the stories about his thoughts and attitudes towards Dallas. It is crazy.

It's not about "having something to prove", it's about being seen AS ITS OWN CITY...

You people keep trying to make this all about Dallas, when it's really just about Fort Worth.

This may be a bad comparison but Fort Worth reminds me of a huge Amarillo. Believe it or not, I mean that as a compliment. Amarillo has a lot of really historic and nice neighborhoods and places a bigger emphasis on culture than its West Texas counterparts.
I see Ft Worth as being pretty similar to OKC or Tulsa...even though both Oklahoma Cities have better skylines.

Ft Worth would not have the population it does if it was not connected to Dallas.

Ft Worth being attached to Dallas gives it amenities that OKC does not including access to one of the world busiest airports, as well as one of the best airports in the country for business which is Love Field.

Sports like the Dallas Stars, Cowboys, Mavericks...etc.

Most people that are not from Texas have no clue that Ft Worth is a separate city from Dallas because Tarrant County all roots for Dallas Sports teams.

I can't tell you how many people come here and thought that FT Worth was just a suburb of Dallas like Arlington, Plano or Irving.

In many ways, it is. Just depends on what you are looking for. I think it's underrated because everyone I've brought to Ft worth from out of state was blown away by Fort worth when they experienced it. I brought people over from Dallas to hang out in downtown ftw and they were shocked at how nice it was.

Ftw still is very homogeneous and doesn't feel all that inclusive. Not to say that it feels racist or off-putting or anything. Just that it lacks cultural diversity and variety if you are more into that kind of thing. So I think it's underrated because people think it has absolutely nothing to offer. But I don't think it's the greatest city ever or anything like that. Houston is underrated and has a lot to offer. But Fort Worth is much more underrated with less to offer.

Having been to both OKC and Tulsa, I don't see Tulsa's skyline as more impressive. I also can't agree that if Dallas did not exist, Fort Worth would not be a place of size/ and substance. It has some big businesses, a more attractive riverfront than Dallas, a great museum district, TCU, and the Alliance Airport master planned community. Before DFW Int'l Airport, Fort Worth had Meacham Field which is where JFK first flew before going to Dallas. it has a significant Railyard that connects with the west coast and thus is a major cargo transit node. And the obvious, it was founded in a similar locale as Dallas. So why would businesses and people not find it worth investing ?

That said, given FW is part of DFW, I agree its a more livable/desirable town than either of the Oklahoma metros.

To each his own, but the Fort Worth skyline sucks. The BOK Center is Tulsa is way more impressive looking multi use arena than the Dickey's Arena in Funky Town.

I don't think Ft Worth would be as big as San Antonio, or as impressive as Austin if it was not connected to Dallas.

Their are around 2.5 Million people that live in Tarrant County, and I would suspect that without Dallas the Ft Worth metro area would have around 1.5 million people.
