My husband and I are considering moving to the Tanglewood area. From what I read, Paschal HS is only worth going to if you get into the AP program. Otherwise, it is best to go private school. How does that process work? My son is in 7th grade now... Also, if we elected to go to private school, how competitive is Fort Worth Country Day? Are there prep courses to assist with admission?

You must be talking about the Paschal Advanced Academics program. I've heard there's a lottery but I don't know the details. I would contact the school ASAP for information. School gets out for Christmas Break this week and the high schools are busy with finals. The FWISD website mentions a December 7th deadline for schools of choice but I'm not sure what the deadline is for. If your son is in 7th grade then what's your plan for 8th? Paschal starts at 9th.

If you don't want to send your child to a religious private school then your two options are Fort Worth Country Day and Trinity Valley. Both have a good reputation but FWCD has a reputation for being old money although not all families come from old money. TVS is considered academically more challenging. If you decide to go the route of private schools I encourage you to look outside of Tanglewood. It's a lovely neighborhood but there are equally lovely neighborhoods that are closer to TVS and FWCD and you won't be paying the Tanglewood/Paschal premium. I'm not sure how many 8th grade openings there are in either grade. Usually, the only openings are when someone is kicked out or leaves for some other reason. There may already be a waiting list for those slots. I urge you to reach out to admissions ASAP as well.

Both schools add slots for high school but those slots are competitive because there's a lot of movement between schools then and there's also a K-8 private school that has students applying for the slots.
