Who remembers when Interstate 30 ran on top of Lancaster Avenue before the Mixmaster was rebuilt and a new I-30 was built south of the railroad tracks?

Yes.

And the 2nd best decision the city made for downtown was moving it south of Lancaster.

NOT surrounding all of downtown in highways, like Dallas and Houston.

(San Antonio also did it, but it's a lot wider and spread out, so it doesn't really feel enclosed)

I barely remember when I-30 went above Lancaster, since I was a kid (probably 2nd-3rd grade or so) when they moved it south of Lancaster.

I'm also glad that downtown Fort Worth didn't get surrounded by freeways, unlike so many other cities. There were plans for 121 to go along the NW side of downtown and have 199 tie in to 121 as a freeway.

I started working in Fort Worth in 1998 and had a front row seat to the construction of the new interchange on my drive to and from work. It was a fascinating and very complicated project. And the amazing thing is how not including the 35/121/Belknap intersection in that project made the entire thing obsolete in just a few years. And even more amazing that they turned around and added the express lanes in the last 2 years and continued to ignore that interchange.

You are so right! I still have a hard time finding my way out of that area to go east, especially at night.
