I was living in Grapevine at the time. I had flown to visit family and had to fly back about 4 days after the crash. Could still see the damage of the tank as my plane landed. Was always a nervous flyer before. Came close to a panic attack when plane was landing. Drove to work everyday on the highway where the plane took out a car or two. Took a while not to think about that everyday on the way to work.

Well I learned something new today. I didn't know what a microburst was and it's damage.. You learn something new every day. Scary! I've flown many times in a thunderstorm.

I was just 7 at the time but remember hearing about it on the news at my grandma's house. A few years later a movie was made about it called Fire and Rain. Anyway, that day changed aviation especially with NEXRAD coming along to detect windshear. I sometimes wonder about the survivors.

Yep, I recall it. I was asleep on the living room floor that afternoon in front of the TV. I woke to a news report of the crash, it had just happened and they were showing images of the smoking wreckage, if memory serves correctly. It still comes to mind occasionally, although not due to proximity to the airport necessarily. What I do recall clearly was that at that point, they had no idea what had caused the crash, so there was this sense of mystery about the entire thing. It was only some time later they determined it was wind shear, which seemed really frightening, as the idea of being able to blown to the ground, as it were was frightening. I was just a kid then, so I was basically clueless.

Oh, wait! I still am.

I remember it. I was at work at a facility at the north edge of the airport. We went on the roof and could see the smoke from the crash. It was such a somber day because some of the employees there were involved with an aspect of the flight. Although it was such a long time ago I remember the event vividly.
