Anyone in local area been to UTSW for medical issues?
My son has been with drs in Plano for a year or so and gotten no real diagnosis because they have not been very persistent in trying to track down the cause of his illness...
He went back to his PCP here in Bedford who agreed that he should go to UTSW for new perspective

His Plano drs are just so frustrating and no help at all—
They act like my son is the one who is supposed to tell them when things are done—like an MRI this week—
His GI doctor said to “notify him” when the MRI was done—my son told him last week it was scheduled for Wed
So totally screwed up...

I think UTSW is the best hospital overall in Dallas.

Our dentist’s college age daughter went there for condition and was misdiagnosed w/epilepsy
Was on meds for almost a year before they took her to Mayo Clinic and got correct diagnosis
On two different conditions
So doctors there can make mistakes like anyplace but found out friend of mine was patient there and got helpful diagnosis for condition that wasn’t uncovered by her regular ones...

We had always heard UTSW was tops
Just looking for confirmation

Yes, for a serious issue for my wife. Yes, her care was superb. Obviously things can vary depending on the exact issue and the exact physician you have, but overall I have a VERY favorable opinion of UTSW and my default would be to recommend it strongly.

Just saw something that said most doctors have something like 15-20% misdiagnosis rate. I believe it.
It has amazed me in many visits with dad, wife and myself that I felt like I knew as much or more than docs treating us.
I consider almost all really good docs...so not sure what the issue is....
My good doc did not guess at kidney stones for me....well probably not appendix since you had it removed?....hmm what else could that crippling pain be...why don't you go to ER and see if they can figure it out.

Was that comment about the ER meant for me/us?

My son has had better communication with UTSW in past couple of days than with the staffs of his other specialists

And he got a very curious phone call from his GI dr last week wanting to know what the oncologist surgeon he has seen has said about his care...
Three doctors—4 if you include the radiologist reading all his scopes and MRIs that son has never met in person—and none of them have a clue...or can agree on how to make a diagnosis

I think UTSW is the best hospital in Dallas and one of the best in the United States. All of my doctors are there (PCP, dermatologist, ENT, and oncologist) and I wouldn't go anywhere else. My oncologist is the reason I went there in the first place and, if not for his (and his team's) expertise, I wouldn't be typing this message. I asked him for referrals so all of my doctors would be there with its central system where each has access to everything - appointments, test, etc.

Yes—
My son had an MRI late Friday PM
He got a call from the doctor doing his endoscopic ultrasound next Fri with inform reading the MRIs w/radiologist
On a Saturday
And because my son was sleeping he missed the call
When he woke up and called back he got a live person on the other end but not the dr
He explained he missed the call and what it was about
The guy who answered called my son’s doctor who called him back and they had a fairly lengthy convo about the results
Not all good news but this doctor is not intimidated
She has a game plan
Is going to review all his other MRI and endo results—the raw data not the radiologists’ summaries

The MRI at UTSW was able to give more definitive imaging but still not everything they need to see
I am just really sorry my son was resistant to moving to new doctors sooner

And I would not recommend most of the doctors he was dealing with at Medical City Plano

Sorry to hear the "not all good news", but grateful that he's got a responsive and talented doctor (and medical team) who are putting a plan in place.

Yes
The attitude from these doctors is 180 degrees opposite the ones in Plano
The biopsy was not successful in that she couldn’t get to the mass seen on the MRI—
Too many blood vessels in the way
But she did put in feeding tube past stomach into the small intestine so he is getting nutrition and able to have liquids like broth and apple juice
He met with the Head of Surgery Dr Zeh and two of his staff surgeons
We weren’t there because they came by Sat before lunch—
He has a GI dr who is coordinating the various sides like nutrition and surgery
He is very impressed and confident he is getting good care
