https://www.fox4news.com/news/fort-w...-north-america

It's a really interesting and fun place. They care for the animals and it really shows.

I have a membership to the Fort Worth Zoo, and yet I disagree with this ranking.

Perhaps when the renovations are complete, but right now it is a difficult place to visit.

Unlike many other zoos, there is not a 'circle' you can make to visit the areas. After you enter the zoo, you are face with two paths: to the left, which ends up at the Texas exhibit, or to the right, to see the large animals. Regardless of the path, you will end up back-tracking to get back to the beginning spot.

The zoo has improved immensely over the decades (I began going, with my parents, in the early 1960s). The zoo was helped a lot by sponsorship by such people as the late actor, Jimmy Stewart.

Yet, a few years ago I visited the San Diego Zoo, which truly deserves a high ranking. Its care for the animals is beyond approach.

I am a firm Fort Worth boy, but to say that the Fort Worth zoo exceeds San Diego is suspect.

It was a popularity contest - a reader vote in USA Today. Apparently, the FWZ has a lot of fans.

I got emails from the FW Zoo asking me to vote. They have my email address because I sent my kids to their camp once. I wasn't impressed with the camp. The groups were huge and they were just led around the zoo by college kids. My older son told me that he learned a lot more at the River Legacy Living Science Center camps.

I don't get the hype around the Fort Worth Zoo. Its nice don't get me wrong but I've visited many zoos that are miles ahead of Fort Worth in every aspect. The National Zoo in DC is amazing.
