relocating to Johnson Country, TX (Fort Worth, Cleburne: for sale, real estate, apartments)

We are in the midst of deciding where to focus our attention on finding a place to live IN Johnson County, TX. Our daughter's family is in Burleson and that would be ideal....EXCEPT it's looking like real estate may be on the high side of what I'm comfortable with going into retirement! I'd love some personal feedback on Joshua? Cleburne? We don't want to be any further away from the grandkids than Cleburne, preferably closer.

In other states we have seen "Senior Communities"....NOT NURSING HOMES but smallish, single story condos (patio homes) or modular homes where you live amongst other over 60's. I have googled everything that I can think of and the ONLY responses I get from the WEB are basically "Nursing homes" where you begin in an active building....and work your way to the nursing beds. That isn't what we're looking for. One of us will be retired; the other working remotely...so definiteyl 2+ bedrooms.

These active living communities you seek are a fairly new concept in DFW. Because they are so new, they are primarily in the more dense areas of the metroplex and are quite pricey. I found this website below. It looks like the closest one would be in Fort Worth, but they go for $300 - $400K!

That's going to be tough, but you might be able to find a small 2/1 house in that price range. The "senior living" communities will be much higher than that. The ones I am aware of, such as Robson Ranch, Trinity Terrace, and The Stayton, are all well above that price range. If you look towards Fort Worth, stay south of I-20 to avoid the high crime neighborhoods in south east side of town.

Would you consider renting? Or possibly buying a 1/2 acre lot and a manufactured home?

If your daughter's family lives in Burleson they will be able to help you out a lot on this.

I like Joshua. As things are progressing now you can barely tell when you leave Burleson and enter Joshua. Same goes for the north side, one minute you're in Fort Worth, the next minute you're in Burleson and it all runs together. People come in from all the small surrounding towns to shop, dine, and just general business purposes to Burleson.

I know of some new apartmeBt complexes that are designed for the 55 up age and they are nice and have a lot of amenities and recreational options but they are still none the less apartments. I don't know of any senior communities.

I will say I don't care for Alvarado but since there's really nothing there and you would have no kids in school you would come into Burleson to do everything anyway for the most part.

Cleburne is the county seat and another town I'm not fond of for several reasons. A lot of folks who live in Cleburne come to Burleson to shop at our HEB which is one of the superstores or whatever they call the big ones.

There's a lot of small towns around. Keene is one but I always just associate it with the Seventh Adventist Church. Egan is a pretty area;

Since it sounds you will be buying, I would first look up the tax rate for each school district in the JCA. Johnson County, Texas > Tax Office

When you look at areas and see something you like, check to see the water supply, the electricity, the internet available. If it's close in to Burleson the water will most likely be Johnson County Water or Bethesda Water but there are a lot of private systems out there. I had friends who moved to Joshua Mountain View Estates many many years ago and at that time it was a private system and they got into a horrible nightmare situation with the water. I think it ended up the homeowners threatened to go to court I can't remember if it actually got to that point, but it's always wise to check your tax rate and your utilities for any place you're considering buying.

I did see a home on 1 acre for sale in Alvarado on FB this morning that looked nice from the pictures showing but would not open up other pictures. It showed up in DFW and surrounding-buy-sell-trade FB.

I would say it's just a matter of what appeals to you the most in the surrounding areas and going off that to make you can live with the taxes, etc. If it is an area your daughter is not familiar with she would be close enough to it to drive around the area and check it out and you could come back on here and ask specific questions and maybe find someone who actually lives in the area.
