Hello everybody!
I was raised in Keller, tx and I currently own a starter home in Watauga that my husband and I bought a couple years ago. He was working in Southlake and going to The University of Arlington, but recently got a job where he can mostly work from home and it increased our housing budget. He’s an insurance agent that specializes in Medicare so his market would be people age 65 and older. He is required to physically come into the office at least once a week which is located in southlake. We have two kids that we homeschool, and we plan on having more so we need a bigger house.

I grew up going out to Lake Whitney and I love that lake so much. I also love Glen Rose because of the Pauluxy River and Dinosaur Valley. I want to move further out of the city closer to these treasures. I need some peace and quiet away from the city. Although, Whitney and Glen Rose would most likely be too far out. What are some towns y’all would recommend? We want a decent amount of land. Probably a 1/2 acre to 2 acres. I would love to have land with access to the Brazos River for Kayaking. Or land that has a nice elevation with views of the landscape.

My main concern is that I’m from the city and don’t want to feel like an outsider. I don’t care that much about shopping other than a nice grocery store. Our budget would probably be around $500,000

Thanks for all the help.

Have you considered Granbury? The Brazos River and Lake Granbury are there, and it is a very popular area for retirees. His commute to Southlake once a week won’t be fun, but at least the other 4 days will be nice.

Brock is a fast growing area and not far from the river. Mineral Wells also.

Granbury is kind of your only option with a tolerable commute (it will still be terrible to Southlake) that has a decent size and entertainment options.

How about Bluff Dale and Mountain Lakes.
Plenty of larger lots there.
No River, but they have the two lakes...community pool, clubhouse.
I'm guessing maybe 10% of the lots have homes.

Corinth. Hickory Creek. Sandy Shores. Copper Canyon? I have friends who live there and love it; out on the lake alot.

Not toward Brazos, but you can get some good sized lots and very workable commute for your husband.

Mineral Wells or Granbury. Someone mentioned Pecan Plantation which is great but like a town on it’s own.

I love going down the Brazos. If you’ve never done a canoe or kayak trip down the river check out Rochelle’s.

Mineral Wells could work since they homeschool, but there are still a lot of drug crime issues out there. And that commute to Southlake would be awful.

Godley? Weatherford? Not right on the river but pretty close...

Granbury and Glen Rose appear to be the same distance to Southlake. I would pick Glen Rose out of those two. Of course, I would really pick Stephenville or Dublin. There are supposedly people that commute from Dublin to Fort Worth, according to a lady in town, although I don't know how.

You will find a hell of a house for 500,000! Maybe you can buy a house closer to FW and then a little patch of land with river or lake access.
