I enjoyed reading the posts and now seek some help myself. I am in the process of accepting a new job in Hurst. I do not know the Dallas/ Ft Worth Area. I would like to find an area that offers upscale restaurants within a commutable distance to the offices in Hurst.

Therefore the question is if you are a older single man, that enjoys going out after work to meet people, where should he live?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Then you will NOT want to live IN Hurst or the HEB area. I'd recommend heading out to Valley Ranch especially being a single male and wanting to be near higher end clubs/hangouts and upscale restaurants. If you don't mind a bit longer of a commute then I would suggest checking out the area around the American Airlines Center in Dallas (home of the Dallas Mavericks and Dallas Stars) and the new W hotel (home of the popular and hip Ghost Bar). This entire area has changed dramatically. Plenty of upscale restaurants that may be close enough to walk to. Lots of little boutiques, a cigar bar, etc. I'd personally prefer this area over Valley Ranch myself. You could walk to the AAC for games and hang out in the Stars Club aka Jack Daniels Old No 7 (huge scene for singles after the games). There is more to do in this area than there is in Valley Ranch.

There are plenty of places in Hurst to get out and meet people. momof2, you make it sound like Hurst is an out of the way hole in the road with the comment "Then you will NOT want to live IN Hurst or the HEB area" in regards to anyone single that might want to go out and have a nice time. No particular reason to back up that claim other than the fact that Hurst is not Dallas and doesn't have the AAC or the Mavs/Stars. So what? Each particular person's idea of a night out might be something other than visiting a fancy cigar club or going to the AAC every other night or a Mavericks game.

The new Dallas Cowboys stadium AND the Texas Rangers are within 8 miles of my house and I live in the Northern part of Hurst. It only takes about 10 or 15 minutes to get there as well; something you couldn't do from Dallas to Arlington - or hardly even East FW to Arlington.

Hurst has plenty of restaurants; as for "upscale" it depends on how "upscale" you want. No, there are no Bob's Steak and Chop House or other pricey, celebrity-filled restaurants, but they are nice and clean like Macaronis Grill, Johnny Carinos, Italianis, and more; if you're in to spending money, you can do that.

I'm no longer single, but if I were I would enjoy living right where I am in Hurst. Bulletine, you'll probably find that Hurst will have just about everything you need. If you want to head over to Dallas or Ft. Worth for a little more big city life, you can do that no problem. In the evening, when you would more likely go out the drive to Dallas is about 25 minutes, and to Fort Worth even less (about 15 minutes).

Check everything out bulletine, and believe me you don't want to live in Downtown Dallas and drive to Hurst everyday unless you really like getting to know your car really well; it would be a killer commute to do that during rush hour where the driving time each way would be more like 45 minutes to one hour. There are plenty of houses in the Hurst area for rent or purchase, and they range from the low 100s to over 750k and up.

There are apartments here as well; some decent ones right across from TCJC on the South Side of Harwood Road. I don't know too much about apartments around here though because I haven't looked for an apartment in almost 10 years.

I'll PM you with more information Bulletine.

Looking for new homes I would lean toward Colleyville Keller or Haslet areas. NRH is great, I currently reside there, but it and Bedford are about built out. As is most of Hurst except up toward Keller as was already mentioned.
Eagle mtn Lake Worth is really growing. There is a gated community going in between Lake Worth and Azle with really large lots, but still has that country feel. Don't know about the schools, kids are grown and grandkids won't start for a few years.
Good luck in your search, and welcome to Texas!

you can google TEA TX school ratings 2006 and check any district/school rating--green valley school in Birdville ISD does have exemplary rating but so do schools in HEB, KELLER, Colleyville, Carroll and probably at least one Arlington and FTW ISD elementary school have Exemplary /Recognized rating as well...

We have kind of excluded Eagle Mountain and I haven't read too many good things about that ISD. My Mom just moved to Saginaw so I was hoping that we could be somewhat close. Lake Worth is growing thing. Some good retail out there.

We are looking at Spring Ranch, Vista Ranch and Newark Ranch out in Haslet. There are some beautiful custom homes out there. We still haven't decided quite yet.

They have quite a bit of convenience out here, but personally, I am not crazy about the ISD out here.
That's a good description. The old part of town there is frankly, pretty unsightly. Some tiny "dollar store" strip malls dwarfed by giant, towering flour mills and BNSF Railway.

The new burbs & schools there do look great, though.

However, might one get the small town, working-class, blue-collar blues here? Is it primarily a church, football, & burgers town (nothing wrong with that, per se)? But, I think the nearest Chipotle is 8 mi away by Keller? Otherwise, standard Saginaw fare appears to be cheap fast food & a few sit-down chains? With a Brookshire's & Walmart?

Anything new in the works?
