I should have known better when my Other Half declared Birmingham, AL our final move.
We will be moving to the Alliance area by the end of July. Yes, I did some research on line. We are in our late fourties with an older feline.
I would really appreciate tidbits of information such as water usage. Do restrictions apply? Do you pay incoming and waste water? What plants thrive? How about farmers' markets? Is there a considerable difference in property tax and utilities between counties/towns? How are community services such as libraries? What is the best cable service? Any problems with cell phones? Just your everyday household questions.
Thank you so much.

I would really appreciate tidbits of information such as water usage. Do restrictions apply? It really depends on where you move to as well as the pricing. Personally we are more out in the country and are on well water, so we don't have any restrictions or costs for water. My Mom lives in Saginaw and last year they were on water conservation restrictions such as watering during the morning and late evening etc., no hosing down drive ways etc. Some cities within the Metroplex do have restrictions in the summer such as days you can water etc.

Do you pay incoming and waste water?
What plants thrive? We are in Zone 8, so there are a lot of plants that are very tolerable including some tropical ones. You can grow pretty much anything as long as you have a raised bed or good soil in your area. A lot of soil around here is clay, so you have to do some work if you aren't doing raised beds. The only thing that doesn't really do well here are citrus trees, but I have a lemon tree that I bring in and out.

How about farmers' markets? There are a few spread out and actually we are pretty lucky we have a little family farm stand very close to us and actually just bought some fantastic HUGE potatoes, delicious cherries and very sweet cantelope.

Is there a considerable difference in property tax and utilities between counties/towns? Utilities (electricity/gas - are more specific to the age/insulation/size and care of the home rather than the area in Alliance) you can chose from Power to Choose to shop your provider. Property taxes do fluctuate depending upon the city/county and ISD that the property is located in. They vary from 2.5% to 3.5% and your agent will be able to help you with the property taxes on a particular home or you can look up a particular address at Tarrant Appraisal District.

How are community services such as libraries? Wonderful with great programs.
What is the best cable service? People either have Warner Cable, AT&T or DirecTV or Dish Network. We bought a bundled package of AT&T, DSL service and Dish Network.
Any problems with cell phones? Nope...your typical providers.
Just your everyday household questions.

You will find every convenience available here in the Metroplex. So I wouldn't worry too much
Thank you so much.

Guingirl - thank you.
It sounds like a pretty "normal" area as far as housekeeping is concerned.

Yep...it definately is. We are from Northern California and while there is a difference, we were really easily able to adapt to the area. Matter of fact, there are more exclusive retail shops closer than where we were in Sacramento.
