charter schools--meaing parents don't pay--vs private/church or not schools where they do---
probably closest/best is in Irving
this link is to list of schools by city
Texas Charter Schools Listed by City (http://www.charterstexas.org/ct_schools/listed_city.php - broken link)

some of the FTW schools on that list are really questionable--there was story in ftw paper not too long ago about investigation into questionable TAKS scores and improper management--you need to be careful...
the North Hills school in Irving and the Honors Academy-University School also in Irving have middle/high school classes and say they are academically challenging

in FTW the Academy of Fine Arts would be excellent school but students are Boys Choir and other dramatic arts students--so that is limited enrollment situation...
Westlake Academy also has restricted enrollment if you don't live in Westlake
