Thinking of relocating to Fort worth area from overseas . I am in Sales. Anyone have any ideas on the best companies that are likely to offer work sponsorship as I have a U.K passport ?

my husband works in downtown FTW and this week interviewed someone with a work permit who is trying to get final approval for his green card. His home country is Italy--he came here about 12 years ago to attend college at what was then Southwest Texas State....
he got degree in geography and has gotten work visa with real estate company in Dallas--he does their different mapping programs...but he wants to get into oil business that also uses lots of mapping...
he offered to work basically as unpaid intern to learn skills so that when he gets his green card-hopefully within 6-8 mo--he can leave the job he has now and go full time in energy field...
my husband said that even though they liked the guy a lot and he really had a lot to offer as far as maturity and willinness to work--it was just too difficult to try to get his work permit changed to allow him to work for my husband's company...
there is some type of bond I think that has to be put up ...

Frankly I don't think you stand much of a chance getting job because you have no contacts, you have no skills that make you superior to any other sales person in place since there is no way for anyone to actually know your abilities---it is just all talk or all on paper...
when you say sales--what kind of sales--how much did you sell last year--have you won any awards for your prowess

If the company you are with has a subsidiary here, may be they can transfer you as an expat. A friend of mine works for Mercedes in Paris in Sales and when he wanted to move to Dallas last year, he was able to get his company to sponsor him here but he had to switch jobs into a management position until he is able to get his papers together in a few years.

Depending on what field in sales you are, and if you speak foreign languages, there may be a possibility to get connected with companies that need the travelling salesmen... I have known a lot during my years in corporate America.

Suggest you visit www.britishexpats.com if you haven't already. As an expat living in the US it's always been a mine of information for me.

Thanks loves2read,
Actually I do have a contact or two. I do medical equipment sales and previously insurance. In both I have been a top performer. I agree it's difficult but I also have other experience so will keep plugging!
