Hi,

I just moved to Texas earlier this week and would like to keep my existing phone number (area code 608). My apartment has a gate with a system that will call my cell phone to open the gate for guests that come to visit.

Problem is, they refuse to put my existing number in the system as it will be a long distance phone call. So my question is: if I have a 682 area code number (through Google Voice) will it be considered a local call from the 817 area code?

Thanks for any help or insight,
- Kyle

Yes. The 682 exchange is assigned to some cell phones in the area, so it would be a local call that way, but I don't know if their system will work through Google Voice.....
