I lived in Fort Worth from 1994-2002 and moved back to my home state of Michigan, which has been a huge mistake. I'm really wanting to move back to FW. The problem I'm running into is that I seem not to be getting any response to my resumes when I send them out in the FW area. I don't know if it's because I'm out of state, or because the economy is getting bad everywhere (though nowhere as bad as MI yet!) or what. Does anyone have any suggestions for how to line up a job in FW from out of state? I definitely can't move without a job lined up first, but I really want to get back to FW. I miss it!

What kind of work do you do? Professional employers are a little more likely to take an out-of-state applicant, but blue collar employers want someone who is already here. I'd recommend using a friend/family's address on your resume so employers won't know you're not local. And keep in mind that you WILL need to be able to interview here, so you will likely need to be able to be here on short notice if you're called for an interview.

jobs here are just as difficult to get depending on your credentials--
people don't want the hassle of hiring out of town or out of state apps because of delays, problems with spouse relocations, non-local references...general inertia

using someone's address here or getting post office box that will forward your mail might help to slip past general screening but what about a request for an interview within 48 hrs--most of the time if people want to see you they want it done quickly--not in two weeks...
buying a last minute air plane ticket more than once would be a bank account breaker

if you have minimal experience and background/degree in something that is not very highly unique or desireable--you and the hundreds of people applying for most jobs are just trash can fodder basically--most of the time people get hired because of a personal contact/reference

do you KNOW anyone in this area that works in your area
have you checked LINKEDIN to see about your field
do you belong to any alumni assoc that might be helpful

jobing.com, careerbuilder.com, snagajob.com or go to the city website you want to work in and submit your resume through them:
keller, watauga, north richland hills, haltom city, lakeworth, fort worth etc..good luck. There are jobs here, you may not be able to be picky, most of these jobs you might need to be here to get.

Don't worry. I LIVE here and I'm not getting any responses. The market is flooded with people looking for work.
