Although the town A vs town B debates have probably been discussed to death, I thought I'd throw money into the equation and see what happens.

Imagine you were offered a good job in your field in or near Fort Worth making X dollars. Assume X is a salary you'd be very satisfied with based on your industry. Now imagine you were concurrently offered a similar job somewhere in west Texas (in or near any of the major cities) making 1.5X dollars. Which one would you take? I'm especially interested in people who generally prefer Fort Worth, but everyone please feel free to offer an opinion.

It all depends on the cost of living. I dont know west Texas like i do Fort Worth but it seem you might be able to get more there for your money. I bet there would be alot more things to do in Fort Worth though.

Cost of living is certainly one factor, but I imagine there's not a huge difference. What I'm really trying to get at is whether or not people like Fort Worth enough to pass up making more money elsewhere, west Texas in particular.

If I could make MORE money and live in West Texas, I would do it in a heartbeat! Unfortunately, the situation is usually the OPPOSITE...West Texas pays LESS than the big city!

If it was me, it would depend what area of west Texas. If it was, say, Abilene for 1.5X the salary, I'd do it in a heartbeat. I can only imagine cost of living would be cheaper in a number of areas and if I was dying for Fort Worth, hop in the car and be here in about 2 hours.
Now if you are talking Midland/Odessa, that's tougher. I don't know enough about out there to give a good answer.
