OK--so we are closing on new house end of the month--
at the old one we use Oncor electric
but this one is bigger--thought I might check out other providers for cheaper rate...
apparently they all reserve the right to add higher costs to your bill based on "transmission charges" meaning when they have to pay more you have to pay more
so how much of a fixed rate is a fixed rate when they can do that...

found this web site that compares providers based on complaints in past 6 months or so
http://www.powertochoose.org/_conten.../scorecard.pdf
so that is some help...but not why people are complaining or how many there actually are

what are you paying not just for KWH price but for your extra charges...
someone said that the extras were as high as the KWH charge...is it that way for all of them...
I don't even know what we pay for Oncor--my husband does the bills...
but I am supposed to find out about turning on new service in our name at the house

We have Direct Energy and don't have anything labeled 'transmission charges', however, we do have a monthly customer charge of 5.00, but that's consistent.
Our rate had been .13 and as of Oct 1 is now .16. we didn't find anything we wanted to switch to after getting notified of the increase, so we stayed put for now.
