My family and I currently reside in a small town in North Carolina. We have lived in the town were my husband is from for almost two years. In this amount of time that we have lived here, we have experienced rude and very disrrespect people and service at places, and a unbearable amount of racism and hatered. I am a college graduate with over ten years of experiece and have been turned down for many jobs (over 20) just because of my race. My husband is able to get a job on the navy base in Ft. Worth. My sister is currently living there and says that we can move down to the area in a month. My question is.....is this the best decision to make for the five of us? We have three young children, and I have to be able to find a job to help support my family. Am I able to find a job in this area? Do you have high crime areas, and I mean if you drive thourgh, you could get shoot or something? My true deep down questions is ...... is this area a safe place and a good choice for a young family who can not afford to move somewhere and not make it? If I can not find work or am not able to obtain it then it is better that we don't move. Also if it is not a safe place for our three children to go to school or play.

That area of Fort Worth is not the most desirable, but it's not that bad. We lived there for a few years (off Hwy 80) back in the early to mid 90s and never experienced any crime. However, in the area around White Settlement, there were shootings where people were killed (one at a bus stop).

If you seek out a nicer neighborhood, you should be fine though. I hope this helps, and good luck on your move!

as far as getting work--it is possible that you could be turned away from jobs because you are black--but frankly this area does not appear to be as racist as some others from comments that people post on the FTW and Dallas boards...
as to your job skills--well, depends on what they are
the job market is getting tighter here and wages are just not as high as they are in other areas

property taxes are higher to make up for no income tax if you have that in your current state
schools seems pretty inclusive and most students I taught were cliqueish but not necessarily racist...
White Settlement schools are not ones I would recommend--there are others with affordable housing that are better...
