Moving To Arlington (Dallas, Fort Worth, Grand Prairie: 2014, house, neighborhoods)

My husband just got a job in Fort Worth and I just got a job in Downtown Dallas. We plan to live in Arlington to split the difference, but we want to live near I 30 to make for an easier commute. Can anyone tell me of some nice neighborhoods and schools in that area. Is there another area we should be looking in that would fit our needs?

There are older, nice neighborhoods north of I-30 in Arlington and the high school in that area, Lamar High, is a good school. West Arlington, both north and south of 30 are also good. I'd say between Collins and going west a little past Fielder north of 30 and then south of 30 around Fielder west toward the city limit of Fort Worth.

Nottingham in Grand Prairie, or north Arlington between 360 and Davis.

The construction at 19th and I-30 looks bad, but it's temporary overall.

would anyone have the zip codes for some of these recommended areas? Makes it easier for us out of state-rs to do house searches.

Also, how is the traffic in those areas? I hear a lot of people complain about the traffic in Arlington.

The zipcodes in arlington north of I30 are: 76012, 76006

South of I30 and north of I20 76010, 76011, 76012, 76013,76014, 76015, 76016

South of I20 are: 76017, 76018, 76001, 76002.

Yep, traffic is pretty bad in Arlington. If you get familiar enough, you can learn all the outlets to bypass the traffic jams... (whenever you get out of them)

I wouldn't wish hell on anyone. I did my time in Arlington. I think the Mid-Cities (Euless, Bedford, Hurst), or Mansfield would be much better than Arlington (I would lean more towards the Mid-Cities). Because of where you live, try Euless. A straight shot to both Downtown Fort Worth and Dallas.

Since when? One of the reasons why I didn't go to Lamar while living in Arlington was because of the bad reputation of Lamar. Go look at the test scores for one.

I'm most familiar with the 76012 and 76006 zip codes. There is an area just south of I-30 and west of Fielder called Interlochen. It is very nice. Some of those streets would be Crowley, Findlay, Loch Lomond, Westwood, etc. Some of these homes back up to a very pretty canal, and this area also has a really nice holiday lights display. I think this area goes to Pope Elementary, which has a good reputation. (Stay away from Wimbish Elementary, which some of the 76012 zip code feeds into.)

North of I-30 off Fielder and Lamar Blvd. are some very nice areas with mature trees. Streets would be Burr Oak, Holm Oak, Waterwood, Rhinevalley. There is another great area near Butler Elementary (school has an excellent reputation and rankings). The area is between Margaret and Davis, including streets such as Briarcliff, Bucknell.

Nice areas of 76006 are off Lincoln Drive. Streets include Chaffee, Hinsdale, Whistler, Gunnison, Keystone, Riveroaks. This area is close to River Legacy Park. I can't remember the name of the elementary school in this area, but it supposed to be good. Go north on 157 and a bit east on Trinity, and you could catch the TRE (Trinity Rail Express) to either downtown Dallas or Fort Worth. Very convenient and a very nice commuter rail train.

I think all of these areas feed into Shackelford Junior High and Lamar High School. They are very large schools. Lamar has nice sports facilities and good theatre from what I've heard. Lamar and Martin are supposedly the best two high schools in Arlington.

There is a Whole Foods Market and newer Kroger off Lamar. Tons of restaurants along I-30, and Lincoln Square is a nice shopping area too. You could go up to Northeast Mall (Hurst-North Richland Hills area) or south to the Parks Mall.

Arlington is a very large city, so of course it has some not-so-nice areas too. I have family members and friends who live in these areas I'm telling about. They are all nice, down-to-earth people who take good care of their homes.

There are actually many nice homes close to Lamar, but that still doesn't help the schools reputation and test scores.
