Hi, we're planning on moving to the Ft Worth area and I was looking for some input on good towns to look into. We're a rodeo family, so we want a more rural area. I need good schools, as we have a handicap baby that requires therapy and a 16 year old that is already taking college courses. I'm a nurse and don't mind a little drive to work. Any ideas? I feel a little lost not knowing the area but we're excited to be on this journey.

I would look toward Mansfield and the Burleson/Joshua Area.

There are LOTS of horse people in Burleson, and also in Weatherford. You'd fit right in in either community.

I agree that Burleson, Mansfield, and Weatherford area would be good areas for your family. Burleson may be closest to downtown fort worth where the main hospitals are and it is a growing area. Also, there are quite a few physical therapy places and hospitals in southwest Fort Worth. It would probably be around a 20 min drive from Weatherford or Burleson to southwest Fort Worth. I went to TCU and am familiar with southwest Fort Worth and physical therapy in the area if you have any questions.

Check into Decatur. It matches what you are wanting because it is a suburb, but still has a small town feel and has some horse people there. The schools there are good and it is only 20 minutes from Fort Worth.

Hope this helps!

HI PropperNurse! Here’s a link to a website I think you should checkout; [URL="http://www.dallasfortworthcrime.com place"]place the pointer over FT. WORTH and a drop down box will appear that breaks it down into certain sections of FT. Worth. This site also allows you to check the area of a specific address.

I agree with the Burleson, Mansfield, and Weatherford areas or FAR North Fort Worth.

Decatur does not have very well developed special needs program in their schools--they contract with Denton I think to provide services...

Default Moving

Thank you all so much for the replies. What about outside of Dallas? Or is outside of Ft. Worth better?

Fort Worth is better for horses and rodeo. Outside of Dallas, try Rockwall or (if you have the budget) Sunnyvale.

You are smart to be questioning the Fort Worth forum for a horse friendly place. On your Dallas thread other posters said Rockwall and Mesquite. Rockwall is a booming suburb of Dallas and is quite a drive to Children's hospital in Dallas. Mesquite is closer but hardly horse country, more like a big city suburb, definitely not outskirts. I also wanted to point out that Alvarado, Cleburne and Joshua areas are big horse/ rodeo towns as well, check them out as well as the others mentioned here. They all have good schools. My cousin has a son with CP in Decatur and his son got care at Decatur schools, not sure that is a big problem. BTW: Dallas children's or Cooks in Fort Worth are the two top childrens hospitals in the area, (if not the nation).
