I moved to Bedford, Texas last summer and searching for a place to get my taxes done. So far everyplace I have called charges over a hundred dollars. I am currently unemployed and do not have that kind of money to spend. I do not trust myself or software to do them myself. I come from Kansas and have always gotten them done for around fifty. I have also called the library and they have people come in a couple of times for free but they are all booked up. Does anyone know of a good place to get them done that doesn't charge an arm and a leg? I file the individual EZ form so they are pretty simple to do except this year I have W2's from Kansas and Texas. Any help would be great!

have you even tried the on-line form--I think it is about as simple as it gets...

don't understand what difference it makes if you have W-2 from different states--you just total both of them
the withholding goes to the same Fed...
do you pay state income tax in Kansas--
if so, isn't there a deduction line for what you pay in state income tax?

Yes, I paid KS state taxes. I have never done them myself before. I also have unemployment payments to consider. I guess you just add total gross income together? I would just feel better having someone else do them.

I've used TurboTax and their online filing for about 10 years now. My taxes are more complicated than yours and it takes me about an hour to do it once I get all the paperwork together. Total cost is less than $30, although you might have to pay a bit more to include the Kansas tax return. The tax software has gotten better and easier to use every year, with very good explanations of what everything is, and even an online forum where you can ask questions and get answers. For a simple tax return, the software is a solid choice.

go with turbotax and file the free federal. if you have to pay KS state income tax, you can do that there too. turbotax is really easily and they help you along the way. it is very simple for they make it simple. give it a try. if at the end you dont feel comfortable, don't file it. honestly mostly everyone will be about that price. i went to H&R block next to the kroger on euless main and i cant remember the street.
