be aware that Arlington and East FTW used to have large numbers of apts that were Section 8 housing and I would assume some rental property that was section 8...I don't know if there is any way to verify in a neighborhood the % of rental property vs owner-inhabited properties but that would be something useful to know before buying...

are you driving into Irving S of 183 or N of 183--that would make difference as to how I planned my commute..
I think the section 8 apartments in Arlington are central - there is one large complex on Fielder that always seems to have problems and some on 303 near near Cooper/Center. The Eastchase area which is really Fort Worth has a lot of apartments - they are nice but my son lived in one of those and they had a LOT of muggings in the parking lots, he finally just bought a short shotgun to walk his girlfriend back and forth to her car at night. I don't know of any specific section 8 areas with rental houses. I'm sure there are some scattered around but most of Arlington is pretty good ....... especially on the West and North sides.

There is flooding during really heavy rains - it's mostly along the creek areas. Arlington has two creeks that run through it. Some of the streets flood for a short while - it's usually not a problem but I've seen cars float a time or two near the Shady Valley area.

North Arlington would be an easy commute to Irving.

Eastchase which is in Ft Worth but really feels more like Arlington.

Meadowbrook area has some nice houses but it's sitting across from some rough areas south of I-30, maybe a little safer up around Randol Mill. There's a real posh gated subdivision there, River Bend.
