I never thought I would write it--but kudos are due the TX Railroad Commission who called Chesapeake's hand and will force it to block an illegal extension to a Barnett Shale well that ran into unleased territory in east FTW...
the mineral owners in that area had not signed with Chesapeake and yet Chesapeake decided that it was financially necessary to drill under that unleased portion to get to the leased portion on other side...vs starting another well pad and drilling a new well altogether...

illegal under TX Railroad rules to drill closer than 330 ft to unleased property or property leased by another company...
Cheasapeake asked for retroactive permit to keep the well bore open and got slapped down
YEAH!!!!
It is a bully of a company and has done so much to create problems within the o/g industry by using its money/position to bust out smaller companies and run roughshod over mineral owners/surface owners...
I think eveyone was surprised that the RRC just did not knuckle under and give it what it wanted...
pretty brave in light of the downturn in O/G business...
