I'm a college student who recently moved from Iowa, there I worked at a very safe suburban mall and to be frank I am not used to worrying about crime what so ever.

I want to transfer my job down here and Hulen Mall would be the closest location - at times we don't leave the store til around 11 pm. Usually we all park in the same area, but please be honest, is Hulen a safe place for an Iowa boy?

I was there the other day and some of the people I saw made me a little nervous. I probably sound sheltered but that's okay I just want to be safe.

Thanks for any advice!

Hulen Mall is very safe. I have been in there several times and saw nothing but families and adults. Of course evry mall has a few weirdos walking around but that doesn't mean it's not safe.

Yes. Hulen Mall area is very safe. Life the previous person said...a few weirdos everywhere. Otherwise good, safe, regular area.

It's very safe, even more so if you're a guy.

What about the person made you nervous, was it perhaps the color of his or her skin, the way he or she was dressed or maybe both (not being rude or anything)? I have lived here for most of my life and nothing about Hule Mall sends chills down my spine except for the fact that its a diverse crowd which is a great thing that we here are proud of.

Could be that he is from Iowa, a man and worried about his environment. Hulen Mall is not in Oak Cliff but there is always some reason to be alert.

I am 6' tall and rarely worry about my surroundings, but at 11:00 the wierdo's do seem to be out more. By wierdo's I am talking about any guy wearing woman's jeans, guys wearing their britches below where they were made to rest, guys with hair like girls, people walking around aimlessly listening to their ipods, homeless people, people that ran out of gas down the street that need some gas money without a gas can, or a group of people loitering in an area that is obviously not open for business.

All said I think Hulen Mall area is ok, my daughter is 17. We allow her to go shopping there and we do not live close to the area at all. In fact it takes about 30 minutes to get there and she has to pass several shopping areas to get there.

At a 11pm you are most likely to see a coyote then to see a person walking the streets.
