mmmm even with all this stuff that went on, I would be so happy if my kids were able to get to attend school there. My two kids are listed as 7th and 8th on the wait list for a kinder class and a third grade class for 2010-2011 school year. I am sure that means I don't have much chance of them actually getting in this year. There are issues that come up with many schools, and unless things are repeated and not taken care of they should not weigh heavy on the whole reputation of a school. Opinion articles shouldn't be taken for face value.

Well stated and best of luck to you. There were over 150 children on the Kinder waiting list. You are welcome to PM me anytime if you have any questions about Westlake Academy. I'm happy to answer any questions you may have.

Thanks much Mommy24kids. Did the 4 open Kinder spots automatically the first 4 people drawn? Or are those 4 on the waitlist until school starts, and then they come off the wait list and into the program? Trying to see if my 8th position kid for kinder is really 8, or 4 after school starts. Probably the 8th position, but I am just squeezing for any inch of hope I shall reapply every year and maybe one day ours will come!

That's a good question. Those 4 open positions were offered to the first 4 children on the waiting list. So, yes, that moves your child to position 4 for the 2010-2011 school year. Assuming those 4 children accept the offer and enroll....no doubt they will.

just an update to info about Westlake Academy--
there was another administrator let go -- article in FTW paper this morning--
Education | Schools | News from Fort Worth, Dallas, Arlington, Northeast Tarrant County ...
the school may be small but it is difficult to justify not havine someone to supervise both the upper and lower schools--
from the info in the article my take is that Brymer--Westlake manager and the Academy's CEO--not the superintendent since Brymer has no background in education--gave misleading info to the person who was "fired", "terminated", let-go"--whatever and he wound up being sucker-punched when he was given his walking papers...
TWO other admins have been rehired--one after resigning earlier--
so if there is no money to pay one person--where is there money to pay TWO people???
The person who left was having job description changed to make him responsible for the IB program for 11 and 12 graders...

A little clarification - Westlake Academy will have 2 persons supervising the school; Head of Primary and Head of Secondary.

Remember in the article it states and is written in their contract the following:

Westlake Academy is allowed to terminate (employee) employment contract for several reasons, including mutual agreement and "lack of funding for the position of Head of Secondary in the budget" for the school, according to the document.

The Head of Primary never officially resigned, so that's not considered a rehire. He's simply staying in his current position.

Default Governor Rick Perry spoke at Westlake Academy's first graduation ceremony

Sending positive vibes as it seems this forum is full of negativity in regards to Westlake Academy.

Westlake Academy is a great place to educate your children. Not a perfect place and certainly not the best fit for everyone. Many of the negative remarks are unfounded and based on news articles written by people with very little information.

There is so much I could say in response but I choose to remain silent on certain issues.

Please read the article below.

As someone who considered buying in Westlake (and still looks longingly online at the beautiful homes we passed up) I am a bit saddened that the valedictorian and salutatorian of such a fine school are only wait-listed...and at Tier B schools. I guess that's because the class was only 24 kids, right? Still....I hope to see a better trend in college admissions with future classes.... The school is beautiful, the setting is incredible and it appeared to be very solid academically--now they have to just figure out how to translate that into some top college admissions....

the fact that they are wait-listed might have something to do with the fact that IB grading of seniors papers/oral exam takes longer than grading a scantron exam--
those students get their results in the summer--and the college might be waiting to find out THOSE results vs their teachers' grades locally...,
