Hi, we just moved from the UK and brought our gas BBQ with us (had to get the priorities right) but need to buy a compatible regulator to fit and some bottled gas. Where can I buy this sort of thing in the Heritage/Keller area preferably? Need to be ready for those balmy spring evenings we keep hearing about ....

Thank you!

Is it propane?

You can buy propane tanks at Walgreens and CVS. You can also get propane refills there. There is a walgreens and CVS on Beach/North Tarrant intersection.

Don't know about hose and fitting...

The propane "refill" is more of a propane tank swap. Where they take your old propane tank, and you get a new propane tank. You might need to have bought it from walgreens/cvs for this to work... I'm not sure...

Any propane tank you buy will have the required fittings on it. No business that is licensed by the Texas Railroad Commission to pump and/or sale propane can sell a propane tank that does not have the proper fittings. There is only one fitting for propane tanks.

The local stores like CVS, Walgreens and gas stations that exchange may not exchange your old bottle if it is out of test date and the fittings are not up to code. At least not without a fee and any place that does exchange may charge a fee if it is out of test date and the fittings are not up to spec.

You can also exchange them at most camper and RV places and any business that sells industrial, medical and specialty gases like welding supply stores. There are businesses that do solely propane like Amerigas. Also places like Lowe's, Home Depot, Academy Sports and such do propane exchange.

You can buy a propane tank anywhere you want and then exchange it anywhere else you want as long as it is a customer owned bottle. Most small propane tanks are not leased so there is no worry of that though. It's when you get to the bigger sized ones that you see on forklifts and the really big ones that are used for large commercial cookers.

Thanks both of you. We will have to purchase a tank first time round because we could not bring one over with us on the shipment from the UK. It works , by the sound sof it, pretty well the same way as I am used to in that you purchase a tank filled with propane first time then simply swop it or refill it as required from then on. We will need to buy a hose to connect it to our bbq as the one we currently have has fittings that would fit a UK propane tank but not necessarily a US one so hence why I asked if I can buy the fittings as well. I realize that the tank itself will come with the correct fitting - I just need to connect that up to my bbq. Hopefully it might even be the same sort of fitting as our UK version.

If you need the fittings and hose then I'd go visit a local gas supplier like a welding supply store or a place like Amerigas that does solely propane. They can sell you the whole thing from the actual tank to everything you need to connect it to your grill. The local CVS and such will NOT have the hoses, fittings and regulators. The guys at Home Depot and Lowe's won't be much help either, typically.

Great advice thank you. Just need to google where to find some place like that not too far away hopefully. Thanks.

You might try BBQ Outfitters in Southlake, or Barbecues Galore in Grapevine for all your BBQ needs - that's all they do, and they can point you in the right direction. It's a little further afield than the local Home Depot or Lowes, but I have nothing but good things to say about BBQ Outfitters in Southlake.

When we moved to Texas, we just had a gas grill; since we've been living here, we've been converted to the Big Green Egg, and just love it - my husband is now a grilling fiend
