Up in smoke in Keller is very good.
I want to try the one in NRH off of Davis I believe it always seems croweded.

Red Hot and Blue is pretty darn decent for a chain.

My favorite place to eat BBQ in FW is The Sausage Shoppe. OMG, such good food.

We went to North Main BBQ in Euless (maybe Bedford)... so very good. You pay a flat fee of 12 bucks and get all you can eat. Sausage, Chopped Beef, Roast, all kinds of stuff. Even bread to make sandwiches. Sweet Tea and ice cream. So very good. I think they have won several awards.

Thanks for the suggestions all. I wanted to follow up my OP to update the thread and my quest for good BBQ in DFW.

I tried Red Hot and Blue, just because of its proximity. I ordered the brisket and found it to be decent, but lacking somehow. It seemed sterile, plastic almost... lacking true flavor like really good BBQ ought to have.

My next attempt will be Up in Smoke...

I too will try Up in Smoke after all the hype in this thread.

Best BBQ place I've found is The Feed Store in Southlake. It's hard to find... which is a very good thing.

In Fort Worth, Cousin's gets all the love. Dickey's is pretty dang good though.....better sauce in my opinion. They're virtually the same in terms of meats and sides. The okra is better at Dickey's IMO.

The Railhead is pretty darn good. Cousin's has great BBQ, but the sauce is too thin. Railhead's sauce is just about perfect. And their French fries are great!

my complaint with Red-Hot-Blue is with cleanliness of their place (in NRHills) although meat is mediocre most of time but I really love their potato salad
have eaten at Feed Store and turning across traffic can be problematic on weekends--come in from the north so you just pull off into parking lot...
their okra is good--cleanliness can be issue there as well if it has been busy day
frankly barbecuing at home is really best way to get "good" barbecue in this area

My $0.02: So far, the only place to get your BBQ chicken with the bones in (that I have found) is Up In Smoke in Keller. I didn't like their sauce, though. We passed by The Feed Store in Southlake just yesterday and my wife found the place to be a little strange (from the outside - will have to check out the food one day. It smelled AWESOME for like a half mile radius around the joint). I have to give my personal BBQ blue ribbon to Davids BBQ in Pantego. They have the best ribs and brisket I have had since moving here a year ago. I may just go there today... or maybe today is a good day to try out The Feed Store ?
