Looking for an affordable country like setting (Denton, Burleson: real estate, HOA)

We may be relocating to the Ft. Worth area from Kansas. My husband is considering a position at the Ft. Worth NAS/Carswell Field base on the west side of Ft. Worth. We are moving from Kansas and our current home is $130,000 and is on a nice 1 acre lot well maintained in a middle class neighborhood. Not a large home (1500 square feet) 3 bedroom 1.5 bath. I am looking for a country feel with lots of trees in an older area but well taken care of. We have 2 young kids but will be homeschooling and so schools are not a top priority. I also run a nature focused home daycare/preschool out of my home so a natural feel is important. Any suggestions for neighborhoods or towns that may meet our needs would be helpful. Thanks!

will PM an MLS site that has info about Metroplex that is great for Tarrant county and has less exposure to the area west of FTW like Aledo--

there are many smaller towns in the Metroplex and outside it that might have what you are looking for--but remember that the quality can vary significantly

while you may not need a top-rated ISD, in TX resale is usually tied to the ISD you buy in--so buying home in less-desireable ISD because you won't use it might come to be a bad decision when you go to sell--and you could see less of appreciation in value for same reason...

you will have to consider the HOA and city restrictions for running that kind of home-based business--not all areas will allow it--and the real estate agent you would with might not know either--
if you buy outside city limit you probably stand a better chance of not having a problem...and there are unincorporated areas close to FTW...

Aledo and the area around it is nice and does have some trees.
The Aledo ISD is good and so that won't be an issue when you go to sell.

You will not find "lots" of trees.

Don't know how far you want to drive but Mineral Wells is a nice little town.

Look up around Eagle Mountain Lake, too. It's very pretty up there and it will still be an easy commute for your husband.

you can see areas with/without trees

there are couple of zones that meet, mingle in the DFW area which means that when FTW advertises it is "where the West begins" that is true for more than one reason
the Western prairie ecosystem starts just west of FTW--that means few native trees--certainly no forests--mostly mesquite (which is really a trash tree) and some post oaks and scrubs like Hackberry

if you want trees you need a water source--so areas south of FTW like Burleson, Joshua, Granbury typically have more trees
as to areas N of FTW like Denton, Argyle, Bridgeport have more trees as well

if you buy in older neighborhood there is likelyhood that trees will have been planted and grown over time--but much of this part of TX is not like other areas of the country were there are large stands of pine and other trees--
East TX down to Gulf coast is the part with more forest-like tree stands...
