I think there are some posts on this forum about Granbury schools--you can run a search--

frankly I don't think they are rated that well--probably Aledo schools would be rated better

check out the TAKS ratings for their schools and compare them with Aledo
if you see most elementary schools rated as Acceptable vs Recognized or Exemplary (#1) then it is not a good district

I don't think I have read that there were any National Merit scholars in Granbury or seen that much positive in the paper about their band or other organizations
it would be a smaller district--4 or 3A maybe--and since it is an hour's drive from FTW--not too much shows up in the FTW paper about it

My spouse and I will be moving southwest of FW and we inquired about Granbury and have been told by numerous people that the schools are not good. I am not blind to Granbury since I have family that live in the area. The town seems to be more of a tourist destination, especially the old downtown square. Traffic always seems to be bad between FW and Granbury and I don't want my spouse to have to have a long commute since he will be working south of Granbury so we have decided to nix living there. I have not heard bad things about Aledo. If I had to choose, I would choose Aledo over Granbury.

I don't live there but I have been doing a bunch of research on the area. You might check out these:
Greatschools.org Search: granbury
and
Greatschools.org Search: aledo

It looks to me like Aledo has a much better school system.

We have family friends who have lived there for several years and their kids are now in high school. They've told us numerous stories about the gang problems in the high school. I agree with the above comment, that the square seems like a tourist destination...which it is, but it's a neat town. Our family friends have told us that if they had a chance to move, they would move to Aledo and were trying to get us to buy a house in Aledo when we moved to Texas.

I wouldnt rule out Granbury. Its much more of a real town than Aledo, it has a very good culture and lake lifestyle. There are tons of young families there, and Im not sure why the schools arent rated higher, but my guess is that it is more because of the mix of young middle class Granbury, and poorer rural kids . The rep is way overblown. If you take care of your kids and push them in the right direction they will excel anywhere. Its much more of an idependent town, people in Granbury are very pro Granbury, it doesnt feel like a suburb of FW, like other towns do.
As for gangs at the HS.....thats kind of a joke, people are so hyper sensitive to the term, especially the Granbury Police......
