I sprayed my yard w/something we got at Home Depot and in that area I think it made a difference--but my husband walks in the morning around the neighborhood before breakfast and he has to come in this morning--mosquitos were just too bad--
he tried to play golf yesterday afternoon at Bear Creek by DFW and same problem--mosquitos were too bad--and he had Off to use...

has anyone had your city out spraying--which I know probably was not really effective because of continuing rain...should we call and ask for some help---think this is going to be bad and mosquitos already have the jump on us humans...

Just be careful--try to empty any standing water you might have on your property--make sure the gutters are draining--and make sure your dog or cat has something to prevent heartworms...

The mosquitoes are really bad this year compared to last year. (I just moved to TX last year.) Everyone tells me it's b/c of all the rain we've received.

Speaking of the little critters, how are the chiggers this year as well? I was born/raised in OK and I remember them being brutal in the spring. What I can't remember is do they stay around all summer or are they mainly an April through June kind of thing.

I don't have chiggers in my yard--but think they are alive and well all spring/summer/falll--depending on how cold it gets...

Is it true that chiggers are more prevalent in bermuda grass or can they be in any type of grass?

They can be in any kind of grass/weeds/fields. If your yard is treated you won't have them. We even treat the property at the lake. Only part of any yard we never treat is the garden (which is large) and so the kids know they will get them there possibly.

Someone told me in another thread that Off Skintastic works well. I haven't tried it yet.

I can remember people saying that chiggers were worse in Bermuda grass--but don't know that if proveable or anything but a wives' tale...

Off Skintastic works wonders for me beowulf7. If I cover myself good enough, I never even get a bite. I think chiggers are bad when the grass is high. Also, Fabric Softener sheets work on mosquitoes (rub over the skin) if you don't have insect repellent.
