Thinking About Moving (Fort Worth, Irving, Bryan: leasing, home, transfer to)

I am a 'recent' college graduate with a degree in engineering. After a year of job searching I have yet to find any takers. I have recently found that my girlfriend would be able to get a transfer to the DFW area, since we have little holding us in Columbus we are thinking that its time for a change of scenery. I am looking for some help on where would be the best area for me to move to within the metroplex. My target industry is in the manufacturing/logistics fields, so where would be the best place for me to live in order to have a reasonable comute to areas where prospective employers are located?

For logistics jobs, try looking around the Alliance Airport (near North Ft. Worth) Lots of cargo shipping (by air, & train).

I have been looking at the Bedford/Irving area to stay a reasonable distance from everything. It doesn't look too far, what kind of commute would I be looking at?

BTW: I believe we set a record for consecutive days with snow cover this winter

I would suggest getting on like map website like google or mapquest at about the time you think you would go to work and watch the traffic patterns. Do the same for the drive home. Do it for a few days and see how the roads look. It also depends on how long of a commute you are willing to be in. I live in N. Fort Worth and drive to Las Colinas. It's 30 min commute leaving @ 5:30 AM ( a lot longer if I wait an hour). The commute home is always longer and I always leave the office @ 4:15.

It really depends on what part of Irving or Bedford you are looking at...

My husband works for Lockheed and we love the areas from Bryant Irvin/Hulen..White Settlement...Saginaw area.

this is going to be a crap shoot for driving and job since you don't know where you are going (hopefully) to be hired...

rent an apt fairly central like in Euless/Grapevine/Las Colinas for say 6 months--
if you haven't found a job by then you are probably going to have to consider your options anyway...
then IF/WHEN you get a job--find a place closer to it...

public transportation won't really be an option in Tarrant county so you are going to be driving...
just be prepared to put in some time on the roads until you do have permanent job and can move close to it...

there are also companies who do leasing for engineers--know someone who used to work for it but it closed shop last year--
some people who worked with her went out on their own...
have you checked/googled for contract engineers DFW or something like that???

I have been in contact with a company called aerotek in the columbus area, and I had intended to have my information forwarded to their office in Fort Worth. Otherwise I am not familiar with any in the area.
