Noticed there's an airport near Fredericktowne Village - wondering if the air traffic noise is noticeable? Thanks.

I wouldn't think so. I have a friend who lives in the condos there and she has never mentioned it. It's a small airport, with just small private planes and Medevac choppers. However, sometimes when the weather is bad (this past weekend, for example) and the president is going to and from Camp David, they will fly from DC into the Frederick airport.... those helicopters are bigger and louder, but it doesn't happen very often.

Maybe someone else will verify that this is correct, but I don't think the noise from the airport would be a big deal.

Nothing to worry about. There isn't even alot of noise at the airport itself. Most of the traffic is small hobby planes.

The air traffic, as mentioned above, is mostly small planes and helicopters. I see a lot of gliders in the summer. But the air traffic is constant. I think the airport is the 2nd busiest in MD (non commercial flights). You will see a lot of small planes in the air if you live near there.

On a side note, I thought the President only used Hagerstown Regional when he flies to Camp David. Something about a smaller runway in Frederick? Maybe with the new control tower he will go in there some, and it isn't a runway thing. I have seen his plane often over at Hagerstown.

Thanks for the info. Sounds like it's nothing to worry about ...

Though I wasn't sure if you were saying that even though it's small planes and helicopters, something about the air traffic being constant DOES create some sort of disruption? Or were you agreeing with the other two folks that there's no noise issue? Would love it if you clarified - thanks!

When he goes by helicopter, he can use Frederick since the size of the runway doesn't matter. I think he normally flies directly to Camp David in the chopper, unless the weather is too cloudy/foggy in the mountains, in which case they fly to Frederick and then motorcade up Rt. 15. I guess both airports are the same distance from Camp David, so maybe they use whichever one is more convenient or has better visibility at the time. It's pretty cool to see.

Yeah, if you ever see 3 chinooks with crome spinners, tinted windows, and loud bass - all flying in formation. You will know it's him.

Not Chinooks. The Presidential Helo is a VH-3 probably the last models of the H-3 Sea King in the Federal Inventory. Some of the support helos are CH-46 Seaknights (smaller brother to the Chinook used by the Navy and Marines) The Presidential Helos are Marine choppers.

Oh ok, I didn't think of that. It is cool to see. Used to see them fly up above 270 when I worked by the Frederick Mall, in a group of three.

The noise shouldn't be an issue inside of your house, you will not hear the small planes, etc. But I would say that they is a lot of activity in the sky in that area. Just my opinion. Ask someone who lives near Dulles and they will tell you it's sleepy and quiet. It wont be an issue for you I'm certain.
