We are interested in renting out a part of our place. Where do I start looking to educate myself about how to go about this? I need to know everything from pre-planning to tenant move-in and beyond.

Thanks I didn't know there was a real estate forum. I'll check it out.

However, I was looking for info specifically for Frederick because I'm assuming all state laws (and possibly county) are different.

Look there at the sticky for Maryland.

I'm guessing for Frederick but there's generally not a whole lot of oversight for a person renting a room out. You could run into some regs limiting the number of non-related people living in a house, but that's mostly where there's a college (or a large immigrant population).

Be aware as a municipality Frederick city might have totally different rules than Frederick County. All jurisdictions in MD have to adopt the state's Livability Code as a minimum.
