I don't think so. Remember Frederick County was one of 4 counties to have a majority of voters in favor of 'Gay Marriage' referendum a few years back. although there are individuals in any community that will not be accepting I think most areas of Frederick County would be fine.

I know a number of people who live in Frederick and commute to D.C., it seems to become an increasingly popular destination for first time home buyers priced out of Montgomery County and D.C.. As a result I'd think it's bound to become more liberal and more in line with the Maryland D.C. suburbs politically as well.

Update! We moved to New Market (Lake Linganore) in October 2017 and absolutely love it. I was worried for nothing. Everyone in the developed areas are very open minded, and all of our neighbors and friends are actually very left leaning too. You'll see some confederate flags on farms or when you're driving through the country, but if you're moving to a developed area of Frederick County, I would not worry for a second. We're an interracial couple, our neighbors across the street are gay, our neighbors to the left of us are Hispanic. It's a wonderful place to live and we couldn't be happier. Good luck with your move!

I saw a Dixie flag on someone's property driving down route 80 near where it meets route 75.

Frederick County is still very conservative in my opinion in a bad kind of way.

That part of the county is bluish tinged purple politically.........exburbanites have outnumbered the good ole' boys.

Thumbs up I wouldn't quite agree ....

I'm in an interracial marriage myself and we find Frederick County quite comfortable to live in. I can't remember a single instance in over 5 years now where someone made any kind of racial comment to us. And in fact, I've seen more and more interracial couples moving in around here.

I know there was one guy out this way who had a Confederate flag flying in front of his property for years, and a writer from one of the newspapers even made some negative comments about it as she was writing an area restaurant review.

In reality though? The guy flew it because he's a big Civil War history buff and he regularly did re-enactments, playing the role of generals on the Confederate side. He's not racist. He's just proud of his acting abilities and his costuming and so forth.

Others may well have backwards, prejudiced ideas about things -- but some of them live off to themselves, on big plots of land out of the way of everyone else, because they know their opinions aren't popular. They can't get their way inside town, where practically nobody welcomes their hate speech.

On the whole? I appreciate Frederick County being a little more conservative, and I'm not much liking the liberal Left who keep trying to re-imagine Frederick and the county around it with their Green initiatives and everything else. That "pay as you throw" trash pickup scheme they tried to foist on us a couple years ago was awful! All it amounted to was a big rate hike for trash removal, while making the process more complicated for people.

Main Cup didn't open until around 2005-2006. Prior the Main Cup, there was Main's butcher shop and Main's ice cream at that location. (The Mains were an old Middletown family.)

I don’t know if you’re being serious. One needs to look at a whole lot more than a red MAGA hat, a green environmental flag, camouflage or rainbow colors, to know a person. I’ve lived here for about 25 years now. There are ALL SORTS OF PEOPLE HERE and that is actually a nice thing. I like the mix. Otherwise, you never hear different ideas, different experiences. Take time to get to know people. Most folks want what any of us do, a decent life, a decent job, health, the love of someone special, etc.. It’d be a boring world if everyone was the same.

Well, I don't know that poster personally, but I have heard that same sentiment a great many times. My personal favorite was a college buddy from Silver Spring who drove to Allegany County with his parents to scout possible vacation properties.

They were offended and left for home after seeing a few big pick-up trucks with pro-2nd amendment bumper stickers. Probably for the best..........same guy once responded to my comment about how his neighborhood was nice, but not close enough to the woods for my taste by pointing at the 4 large trees in his backyard and saying "Look, we have a nice little forest right over there."
