Frederick County is still very conservative in my opinion in a bad kind of way.
You only saw one? You must not have been looking too hard.

Since I originally wrote that message we have gotten two more restaurants in the newer shopping center. One very nice Italkian one and a so-so Mexican one. They are currently building a Barbeque place in the same shopping center and an Italian one on Main St. I actually wonder if all will survive

That must be why it was one of the 4 counties in Maryland where Same Sex Marriage got over 50% the vote. There are some 'bad' conservative pockets in the county but overall it is a very centrist area.

Probably for the best..........same guy once responded to my comment about how his neighborhood was nice, but not close enough to the woods for my taste by pointing at the 4 large trees in his backyard and saying "Look, we have a nice little forest right over there."
People should not be so easily offended. I think we’re turning into a nation of wimps. I’m as complete an atheist as one will find but one of my favorite coworkers was a religious fundamentalist fellow. We agreed on almost nothing but probably chatted with each other more than any others because we found each other’s perspectives so novel and interesting.

I’m a pro second amendment guy but I’d never put anything on my car for fear of having it vandalized. However, when I’ve been able to engage people one on one, I’ve opened their eyes to the fact shooting is a fun, challenging activity for just about anyone. I recently opened the eyes of 3 ladies who had never fired a gun; one enjoyed the experience but it found it a bit too intense for her, another who became an almost instant excellent pistol marksman and a third who promptly went home, joined a range and started taking classes.

Who would have guessed, none of them thought I was a gung-ho redneck worshipping a penis substitute. All of them had a good time with a gun nut. Oh, and no, they aren’t redneck ladies either. One owns her own cleaning business, the other is a marketing executive for a biotech firm and the third is a veterinarian.

Depends who you ask and where you go. I graduated HS in 2000 and haven't lived there in years. I lived in Middletown for about 7 years and moved to Frederick on the 8th year. Frederick is more/less moderate with the city area being left leaning and the county being def right leaning. I lived in Baltimore for 10 years afterwards and the best comparison of Frederick is Cockesyville, MD or Lutherville, MD.

As a minority I can say my family and I had encountered discrimination there. There were several instances where my father got into arguments with restaurants who refused to seat us (skipped over us and seat everyone else). There was an instance where a woman who was backing out rolled down her window and proceeded to yell at my father and family, "Get your foreign ass out of the way, go back to your country". These instances occurred in Frederick, along the golden mile. There were several more, I can't remember now.

I don't know the race of the OP, but those are some things to consider.

Default Hi there

Hi,

I am very shocked to read what you wrote. What ethnicity is your father and did he hire a lawyer?
(I'm multicultural and just moved to Frederick)Sorry that happened to your Dad...

P.S. what is the golden mile?

The Golden Mile is the stretch of Rt. 40 that is full of chain restaurants and strip malls.

I just happened to see your post, so you may have already moved up here. Frederick County, at least from middle part of the county and farther south, is surprisingly very LGBTQ friendly. I lived in Discovery, in the single family home, with my wife, and no one batted an eye and were actually very welcoming. I would stay away from the townhomes but that’s because of crime/nuisance issues.

Frederick City has a very large LGBTQ population, and support for the community. Our Pride festival is June 22 along Carroll Creek and is very popular, both the the LGBTQ community and the straight community
