People always assoicate the downtown area in any city as a crime-ridden haven.

Not so in Frederick. It's a joke, meaning, it's silly to think it's such a dangerous place.

Stores has improved tremendously in last 20 years that I have traveled through it. I jog through downtown frequently. There are some packets that don't look at its best, but you can rest assured it's very safe anywhere in downtown Frederick. I remember eating good cafe food at McCory's in downtown once upon a time.

oh oh oh! I see, and i totally agree! Really, i feel safe in every part of Frederick, including Hillcrest, which recently in the Frederick news post claimed like half of Fredericks juvenile arrests or something like that. But yea, Downtown is great, i really love it. Downtown in Frederick is really safe and extremely attractive! As someone obsessed with architecture, this city suits me well. I love how there aren't truly any areas that are no go zones in Frederick. That's a huge plus

It is, but people tend to limit their scope too much.
East of Market is the charming Shab Row, and West up Patrick is a wealth of interesting places, including Mick's American Bistro, where we had a great meal and incredible service.
Nevermind the lines on Market St in Frederick. Turn onto Church towards the park, take a left once you cross the street, keep on to where it turns into Patrick just past the dog park, and enjoy Mick's American Bistro.
We don't work there, and we don't want it to get crowded, but for foodies and wine snobs, this is the place to go where you won't feel abused by the crowds. They GET medium rare, they know a prawn from a shrimp, and their asparagus is mighty good. Oh, and the beets can't be beat.

Enjoy,
Edge & Cg Gordon

downtown frederick reminds me of downtown greenville sc without the tall buildings.

i'd check out crystal park apartments and see if you can get a 3 month lease over there. older apartments but i think the best one in frederick.
