So i make about 1650 a month after taxes
I have about 625 total in student loans monthly
my car payment is 220
insurance is 90 a month
cell phone is 90 a month
100 a month in credit card pmts( i no longer use them)
and about 250 in gas
175 in rent
I graduated college about a yr ago and I dont have any money. I need some tips
Get a prepaid cell phone (Wal Mart). They are $10.00. Get the $100.00/year minute card and only use the phone a few times a month. It's $2.00/day you use it. That way your phone bill is $8-10 a month.
Why is your gas bill so high? Take the bus, ride a bike, or walk.
What do you spend on food?
When will your student loans be paid? That seems really high.
You might need to take a second job or side jobs in order to have extra income to save more.
I live with relatives, hence no food bill or if I do have one it's less than 80 a month. I live in a suburban area w/no public transit options so I have to drive. I have about 10 yrs left on my loans
Atlanta isn't like other cities, very spread out, plus they cut out transit in the county in which I live. the subway only goes to the immediate suburbs outside the city. I work in a far northwestern suburb and live in a southern suburb
I should get a second job, but I'm not sure where?
I'm only available friday and Saturday
Are you in a career job, or just a job? At least with a career job, the only way is up. If you just have a job, then I would continue looking until you land one. You need to make those student loans pay.
The $100 a yr. cell phone plan coupled with Google Voice is the first place I'd save. Shouldn't be on the phone anyway during work hours. Besides there is probably a computer where you work.
Can't have it all starting out, so start making some changes. I agree, your gas bill is enormous. What kind of vehicle are you driving? What ever it is, you can't afford it. A used Toyota Prius will get you over 40 miles a gallon. Can you take turns car pooling with someone at work? You could just drive your car to their house, and leave your car there if there is someone else living in your neck of the woods.
How much is your car loan? Can you get a "hold" on your student loans and put that money to paying off your car in the next two or three years?
I'm job hunting. I had an interview last week, but wasn't good enough :-(
So I'm looking for a part time job and new full time position. I currently work in a call center for a global bank.
I'm not sure what career direction you are trying to take, but since you are already working in a call center AND have a college degree, you might consider applying to American Express for a work-at-home customer service position. You'd make more money than you are now and eliminate your transportation expenses. I'm not sure of the exact URL of the job description/application, but you could google it.
Straight talk cell phones are $50/month and have unlimited calling and texts. Or like someone said, use google voice (you can still send and receive texts with google voice) or skype. I've gone many years without a cell phone and I'm still alive!!
