I got an email the other day for tires from Firestone. The 4 tires they quoted me a week ago for $400 are now $270! Everything included. Even if you didn't get the email they should honor the price if you ask them. Offer good to the 20th. I was going to wait till Spring but I'm buying tomorrow. 166k miles on my Ford Focus I'm keeping it for another 100k if I can.

That's probably specific to you only. They made a quote for you, you didn't buy at that time, so they took your email and now want you to come back.

Without a specific advertised printing or coupon, no one here is going to walk into Firestone and buy tires for $270, I guaran-damn-tee you that. And without giving us details, an ad, a coupon or something more than what you did, you're not doing anyone a service.

Like I said, my bet is it was geared to you specifically. Also I noticed they're having an inventory clearance sale 15-75% off

But that is only on select sizes that are discontinued.

You have to understand, when it comes to most things automotive, especially tires, there is no standard price.

What model tire is it?

Tires are the only part of the vehicle that touch the road, and all safety systems (ABS, traction control, etc) depend on the grip you get.

So tires are one area I do not cheap out on. Being a car guy, and that being the one area i overspend on, i've gotten plenty of experience with many different types and brands of tires. You truly get what you pay for with tires. I've driven plenty of cheap tires that get somewhat scary in rain/snow situations. What good is saving $50/tire if you wreck your car in a downpour?

Good point. FYI they're the same cheap Primewells I had on there and no problems in 2 years. In water and snow they were much better than the Firestone Touring model.

What year is your Ford Focus?

I have a 2001 Ford Escort with 141,000 miles

I guess the big question here is whether that's a $200 gamble you want to take. You either do, or you don't.
