There is a supermarket, privately owned with 2 locations but it's popular and they have cheap chicken Wednesdays. $4.49 for 8 pieces (2 of each) . It's enough for 3 days dinner for me and my dogs. I'm getting it later today, I was going every other week, but now I'm going to go every 3 weeks since it's about 15 miles round trip.

There used to be a McDonald's special on Wednesdays and Sundays for 49 cent hamburgers in my area but they just stopped it a few months ago. They still have 99 cents 6 piece McNuggets on Monday but since I get burgers from Checkers on Sunday on the way home from the dog park I usually don't get fast food the next day.

Sometimes I would get 4 plain burgers for about $2 and a Little Caesars $5 pepperoni pizza and make pizza burgers.

Some of those deals can be pretty tempting especially if you're only cooking for one and don't like to cook. My crew has gotten spoiled and won't eat the cheap food any more. I cook at home or we go out to eat at a local place that doesn't serve what I cook at home.

Yes, I think you hit the head of the head. When you are single, those meals mentioned can be a reasonable alternative to cooking in every night. But when there is a family involved, it can have just the opposite effect depending on what it is. Excluding the $4.50 chicken. That's a deal for everyone.

Trader Joes has some pre-made meals (and frozen meals) for a somewhat reasonable price, as long as it is for just one person. Costco also has the $4.50 or $4.99 whole rotisserie chicken which is a good size (except I hate the taste) or if your not opposed to eating a Polish Dog, you can order a very large one there with sauerkraut and a drink for $1.50.(of course you have to belong to Costco)

Also, if you do not require huge portions, there are places that serve rather large servings that you can often times save 1/2 of and use for your meal the next day. My son and I got a meal out the other night at a cafe at a casino. I ordered liver and onions which I like. It came with three large pieces of liver, a large helping of mashed potatoes and green beans. I couldn't eat it all, so I took 1/2 of it home and got another meal from it.

You can do the same thing with certain Chinese dishes. Often times you can order something like Egg Foo Yong. for $6.99, which gives you three large patty's with rice and gravy, that you can stretch into 3 meals. You can do the same thing with buying a whole sub for $5.00 and saving the other 1/2 for the next day. Beside getting a cheap pizza, or coupons in the mail for some fast food, I can't think of any other cheap "eat out specials ", around here anyway.

Picked up a 10 pound bag of chicken quarters $0.79 a pound the other day.

Last night had 1/2 rack of st Louis style ribs $2.99/lb (got another 3 meals worth in the freezer)

Picked up some Chuck eye steaks for $6/ pound and some NY strip for $7/pound.
(strips were about to expire. I stuck them in the freezer)

Ground beef from a local place for $3.88/lb

When I eat out its going to be $50 worth of GOOD sushi, or the $22 buffet I hit up which has snow crab (typically start off with 3 plates of snow crab and roll myself out of there...)
Good Mexican, Pizza, or something I either can't do myself, or it's not worth the trouble to do myself.

The cheap fried chicken I will admit to being an exception. Had some for lunch leftover from the other day I got some for dinner as I grocery shopped.

I can make a killer 1/2 pound bacon cheeseburger for about $3, don't see the point in getting grade D beef from some crappy fast food place.

Just went to a local store. A package of NY steak was marked down to $3.30 a pound and London broil to $1.99 a pound, both have dates of tomorrow as the sale by date. Ok for me, the NY will be eaten today and the LB is already in the freezer. They had several LB packages, but alas, only 1 NY package.

They were over stocked

I just started really paying attention to a points program that they have at a grocery store chain where I live. It's not "local" but there are ways to get better deals when I pay attention to local specials and match the timing. i.e. They had a deal the other day where you could buy the instore brand of canned veggies/beans (no sodium) and get 1000 points back per can, which equals $1 in store. Well my local store had the cans on sale for 0.99 cents. I ended up buying 35 cans of various types of beans and chickpeas for me and 35 for charity. I got them for free and actually made .60 cents.

These days there are a lot of deals out there, you just have to really pay attention to find them. Canada where I am, does not quite have the coupon system in place like the US, but we seem to be getting more coupon friendly.

A local pizza place by me does text specials almost once or twice a week and not just $2 off or something stupid but really good specials. Calzones which are normally like $8 or $9 for one topping are $3.99 with unlimited toppings. They'll also do buy one get one pizza or a pizza large cheesebread and a 2 litre for $19.95.
