To make a long story short, I don't want to take out loans or use credit cards to buy cheap garbage made overseas that will fall apart before I make the last payment. I don't want to give money to businesses and institutions that in the last few years have shown that they care nothing about me as a customer nor do they care about the communities they are in. Therefore, I want to go freegan if I can. Anyone else doing this?
Freeganism promotes dumpster diving as a reasonable alternative to purchasing food and squatting in abandoned buildings for shelter. So..... no, definitely not something I'd be interested in doing.
It seems to have a certain moralist/ideological component to it, which isnt really the same as frugality, per se.
The dumpster diving...I hope never to be reduced to that. It would never be my choice to do this for food. Certain other aspects of the concept seem to be related to Voluntary Simplicity/downshifting.
Thanks for the link....freeganism encompasses much more than I thought it did. It does seem to run counter to our culture and I wonder how difficult it would be to live this way and still be part of the general community.
I have more respect for myself and my health then to eat other people's garbage.
Not every company is evil, or does nothing for the people or the communities they reside in. Neither is the choice either freeganism or rack up huge debts buying cheap crap. It certainly happens, which is something I try and work to change in ways I can by living mindfully, but the world is more complex then either A or B.
This is an extremely immature black and white view of the world.
I can see why it is attractive for a call center worker where income is low and the only way to get stuff is to charge it or fish it out of some one else's trash. Instead of cutting spending to the bone it might be a better option to work on inceasing income.

ive considered the benefits of living with my mother; thats kind of like being a freegan.
i cant really do that with the wife and daughter though. im not too hot on the idea of eating garbage and sleeping on garbage.
